The Friday Nite Cruise at Old Town
as reported by Gregg Nelson Sr.

August 26th, 2005
As Published in V2-I35-#55 September 1st 2005

Friday night we had 68 faithful cruisers that came out to greet tropical storm Katrina. Other than a few gusts of wind, a small drop in temperature, and an occasional drop of rain, Katrina never arrived. I'm not complaining though considering what Katrina turned into and the devastation in the gulf. With only 68 cars to look at it was difficult to find cars I have not already commented on but I did find a few.

The first car that caught my attention was a 2004 Jack Roush Ford Mustang GT 440A convertible. This pony is a light maroon color with taupe colored racing strips going up the hood and down the trunk lid. With the top down I could see that the interior had the same color combination and it looked like the racing strips going up the hood was also drawn on the seats. It really looked cool. Jack Roush has a winner with this one even just sitting still. Under the hood of this one I found a supercharged 4.6 L power plant hooked to a 5 speed manual transmission. As it turns out, this ragtop is of exclusive pedigree as she is number six of forty built.

Next to the Mustang was a 2000 Ford Excursion Limited four door SUV. This sport is four wheel drive and is treated to a small body lift. It was also treated to a brush guard, bug guard, fog lights, Centerline alloy wheels, and a video system inside. It looked good with the lights shining on its black paint.

We again had four checker flag winners.

Bert Brown must have a lucky star shining down on him as he won another flag with his tan 1985 Chevy Caprice four door sedan.

Ryan Fontaine also won a flag with his very nice gray 1980 Cadillac Sedan De Ville.

Robert Navarra brought out his burgundy 1987 Nissan 300 ZX T-Top coupe to claim the third checker flag. All three of these cars were in nice shape and for the most part were completely stock.

The fourth winner was Don Petrunak with his 2005 Scion XB four door. This car is white with a custom grille, graphics, neon lights, and alloy wheels and tires. This concludes another report so until next week have fun and cruise safely.
