The Friday Nite Cruise at Old Town
as reported by Gregg Nelson Sr.

This Friday was unusual for a few
different reasons. First it must be said that Tropical Storm Ophelia
kept us all watching the skies a and the weather reports to see what she
was going to do. Fortunately for us in Central Florida the only part of
it we had to deal with were the outer bands that showered on us
occasionally and made for a nice breeze. It was however enough of a
threat that many of our cruisers decided not to venture out. We had a
total of 67 cruisers this evening and that brings me to the second
unusual event of the evening and that is in the six years that I have
lived in Florida it is the first time that I can remember being at Old
Town on a Friday night and not having a car in the event.
Joe said Dippy looks too bad to be
included even though I said I'd banish her to an obscure corner on
Trophy Row and PT put up a protest on Thursday night and decided she
didn't want to move. I think she has the transmission flu and I'm hoping
not a real bad case of it. It just isn't in the budget if you know what
I mean. Anyway on Sunday morning I put her on the dolly behind Dippy and
off to Napleton Chrysler we went. I'm hoping for good news.
The tranny has a bunch of sensors on
it and I'm hoping just a bad sensor. What ever happened to the old
reliable three speed automatics like the 904 and 727 Torqueflites? I do
miss the good old days of auto repair when you could fix something
yourself and didn't have to have a degree in some automotive science to
change a spark plug. New cars still have spark plugs. Don't They?
The evening started out with a shower
at about five thirty and then after that not a drop.
We had four checker flag winners
drawn and three were awarded.
The first went to James Martinick
with a red 1997 Toyota Corolla four door sedan. Jim's car was tricked
out with a carbon fibre hood, rear spoiler, after market tail light
panels, custom bumpers, and wheels. It did look nice.
The second flag was presented to Dave
Snord with a gold 1983 Mercury Grand Marquis four door sedan. Dave's car
was gold top to bottom inside and out but the 5.0 engine moves this boat
along quite well and has been doing so for the last 76,000 miles. She
has a few bumps and bruises but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who
appreciates a full size sedan.
The third flag was awarded to Luis
Aviles who brought out a red 1977 Chevy Nova Pro Street car. With its
roll cage and big motor and racing slicks on the back, It was all
business.
The last flag would have been awarded
to Armondo Torres with a white 2001 Ford F-250 Crew Cab pickup, but he
was nowhere to be found although I did find the truck. It was updated
with the new 2005 head lights and a custom grille, custom wheels and
tires and I think it had neons. Well that concludes another Friday night
report, so until next week cruise safely and have fun.
